About Mulch & Rock

The fastest way to make a tired yard look brand new.

If your beds are looking faded, your edges are blurred, and weeds have taken over the gaps — a fresh mulch and rock install is the single highest-ROI move you can make for curb appeal. One or two days of work, dramatic transformation.

We don't just dump mulch. We start by reshaping bed lines so they flow with the architecture of your home, edge cleanly so the boundary holds, treat for weeds, and then install premium hardwood mulch or decorative river rock to spec. Every install includes a clean trim line and bed protection where needed.

Fresh mulch and rock isn't just about looks — it suppresses weeds, retains soil moisture, regulates root temperature, and prevents erosion in beds. Done annually, it's the cheapest landscape maintenance you'll ever buy.

Our Build Standards

Our mulch and rock standards.

Mulch is the easiest job to phone in — and most landscapers do. We don't. Here's what makes a Garrison's refresh actually transform a yard, not just cover it.

  • We reshape before we mulch — Beds get re-edged into clean, flowing lines that match your home's architecture. This step alone makes the biggest visual difference.
  • Right depth, right placement — 2–3 inch depth (deeper actually hurts plants), kept a few inches off siding and trunks to prevent rot and termite issues.
  • Clean haul-away, not piles in the yard — Old debris, weeds, and excess material get hauled away. We leave your property cleaner than when we arrived.
  • Honest about what works — Mulch is consumable — it's not a permanent install (no contractor warranties mulch and you should be skeptical of anyone who claims to). What we do guarantee is that you'll be thrilled with the result, or we'll come back.
Common Questions

What you need to know.

How often should mulch be refreshed? +
Most yards benefit from a fresh mulch top-up annually, usually in early spring. Hardwood mulch breaks down naturally over a year, fading and thinning. River rock is permanent and only needs occasional cleanup.
Is hardwood mulch or pine straw better? +
Hardwood mulch lasts longer, holds color better, and improves your soil as it breaks down. Pine straw looks more natural in wooded areas and on slopes where mulch can wash. We'll recommend based on your yard.
Will mulch attract termites? +
Mulch alone doesn't attract termites — they need a constant moisture source against wood. Just keep mulch a few inches away from your home's siding (we always do) and you won't have issues.
How much area can you cover in a day? +
A typical 2-person crew can install 8–12 cubic yards of mulch per day, which covers most front yards comfortably. Larger properties take 2–3 days.
Do you remove old mulch first? +
Usually no — fresh mulch goes right on top of last year's. Removing old mulch is wasteful unless it's diseased or moldy. If we recommend removal, we'll explain why.
Can you do mulch and rock in the same project? +
Yes. Many homeowners use river rock around their foundation (drainage benefit) and mulch in flower beds (plant benefit). We design it together for a cohesive look.
